How many union councils must be won to become the mayor of Karachi?
After a delay of almost two years, local body elections are finally going to be held in Karachi tomorrow.
The Election Commission and Sindh Police have completed all the arrangements regarding the elections to be held on January 15.
Various political parties and independent candidates are in the fray in the local body elections in Karachi, but the real battle is expected to be between the People's Party, MQM, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.
MQM-Pakistan has not yet taken any final decision regarding the local elections, while the People's Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Tehreek-e-Insaf are running vigorous election campaigns.
How many seats must be won for Mayor Karachi?
The number of union councils in 7 districts of Karachi is 246 and to elect the mayor, success in 124 UCs will be necessary for the January 15 election.
Central and Eastern districts have gained importance in the mayoral race, the number of UCs in the Central District is 45 while in Eastern District is 43.
Similarly, Korangi is the third largest district with 37 UCs while Kemari and Gharbi have 32, 32 UCs, Malir district has 30, and South district has 27 union councils.
