Earthquake in Pakistan

Earthquake in Pakistan: Is there any way to predict earthquakes?

At least nine people have been killed and 46 injured in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province due to a magnitude 6.8 earthquake on Tuesday night. The epicenter of this earthquake is said to be in the Hindu Kush range in Afghanistan.

Spokesperson PDMA (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) while talking to BBC said that deaths occurred due to roof collapse in Swat, Chitral, Swabi, Khyber, Lower Dir, and Mardan regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a preliminary report by the National Disaster Management Agency, NDMA, no significant damage was reported in Punjab, Balochistan, and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

According to NDMA, as a result of the earthquake, there were cracks in the multi-storied residential building "Khudadad Heights" located in Sector E-11 of Islamabad, after which the residents were evacuated from this building.

Last night, after the earthquake in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India, the researcher from the Netherlands, Frank Hogerts, was once again mentioned on social media, who said three days before the earthquake in Turkey and Syria that soon a magnitude 7.5 earthquake will wreak havoc in this region (southern and central Turkey, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon).

It should be remembered that at the beginning of last month, an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 occurred in Turkey and Syria, in which more than 50 thousand people died.

Another tweet was made by researcher Frank Hogarth's Institute on January 30, in which he showed the possibility of increased geological activity in several areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan besides Bangladesh and China.

It was said that there is a possibility of intense geological activity in or near the areas with these purple bands for the next one to six days and it was also said that the areas outside these bands are not excluded from this possibility.

Therefore, after the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India last night, it was discussed on social media that the government did not take theirits predictions seriously.

Liaquat Shahwani, the former spokesperson of Pakistan's Baluchistan province government, tweeted that "Dutch scientist had predicted an earthquake in Turkey, Syria, and Pakistan, which unfortunately turned out to be true, but instead of taking this prediction seriously, the mountaineers of Pakistan The director of the center had rejected it and today the Dutch scientists were proved right a month later.

Similarly, a user from India, Abhimanyu, also shared a screenshot of the Dutch researcher's tweet and wrote, "It has come true what he had predicted a month and a half ago."

So, after a severe earthquake in this region, people are asking whether earthquakes can be predicted.

It should be remembered that the Meteorological Department of Pakistan rejected these rumors even then and said that there is always a possibility of earthquakes in Pakistan but they cannot be predicted.

The Meteorological Department had said that there is always a possibility of a major earthquake in Pakistan and its neighboring countries, but when and where it will occur is beyond the reach of current technology.

How is Google Earthquake alert possible on Android phones?

Earthquake Alert

During the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India on Tuesday night, most Android users in those countries received a Google alert a few seconds before or during the tremors. went

Many people were surprised by the notification of this emergency on mobile phones and how it is possible that Google received an advance warning of an earthquake when it is not possible to predict an earthquake.

Many users on social media have shared their experiences regarding this alert.

Some are calling it an important way to save lives, while some are asking the reasons why this message is not received.

One user shared his experience and wrote, 'I received an earthquake alert five minutes before the earthquake and I turned it off wondering what it was all about.'

But how did Google issue this Android alert?

Google's Crisis Response Center describes how to issue an earthquake alert by saying that all smartphones have small accelerometers that can sense speed and vibration and indicate when an earthquake occurs. A possible earthquake may occur.

When a user's phone in an earthquake-prone area detects something it thinks might be an earthquake, Google's earthquake detection server sends an earthquake. Sends a signal of K relative to that location.

The server then combines information from several phones to determine whether an earthquake is occurring. Google uses this method to create the world's largest earthquake detection network because it uses nearly two billion Android phones worldwide as mini-seismometers.

The phones detect the magnitude and speed of earthquake tremors and alert Android users in nearby affected areas accordingly.
