'Kala Chashma': Why popular Indian songs have disappeared from Spotify
Imagine trying to listen to songs on your favorite playlist that you've spent hours creating, only to find that half the songs are missing from it.
If you are a Bollywood fan and have a Spotify account, then you probably don't have to think too much because this app is missing songs from the most popular Indian movies.
Spotify says it has not been able to negotiate a new deal with the owners of these songs after the old one expired. Songs that were listened to millions of times like 'Malhari' from 'Baji Rao Mastani' or 'Kaala Chashma' from the movie 'Baar Baar Dekh' have now been deleted.
This has left many people with incomplete playlists as they only realized this when they tried to listen to these songs.
However, they don't get many songs now.
"I'm so depressed, it's so wrong," she says.
"It is wrong that the songs of 'Clunk' have been removed. My favorite song was the title track of the movie, I'm so depressed. I don't know what I will listen to now.
For fans like Vishma, music in Bollywood plays the soul of a film. This gives life to the film and lives on in the headphones for several years.
Even if the film is not popular, people still remember it for its music.
Another favorite song of Vishma's is 'Ngada Sang Dhol' from 'Ram Leela' which she says is 'the best movie ever.'
"It's so disturbing for me that these songs have been removed," she says. They play an important role in my daily life. Now I don't know what to do. It's very annoying and I miss them.'
Similarly, another such fan, Zeenat, told Newsbeat that she had cancelled her Spotify subscription in protest.
Likewise, many users have turned to Twitter and Read It to find out if they are alone or if this has happened to others.
Spotify states on its website that it does not provide access to all songs and podcasts from around the world. Like any streaming app, Spotify has contracts to get content.
This is similar to other services and Netflix where some movies and TV shows are removed after a certain period.
However, fans like Vishma are still hopeful that there may be some good news in this regard. Spotify says it will try again in good faith to find a unique solution and discuss it with Zee Music, one of India's largest entertainment companies.
